The Curious World of Bot in Audio Zones
Bot is a mobile telepresence robot who inhabits a world of sound. Unfortunately during last week’s rehearsals Bot keeled over and died or so we thought. We got in touch with the engineers and apparently Bot needed a service. This meant that we had to send it away for fixing and unfortunately Bot is not able to be with us for today’s performance. However a video of Bot’s face will be shown during the work and we hope you will not be too disappointed that it cannot be with us today.
Please feel free to walk about the room and listen carefully for disembodied sounds. Sometimes you may come upon a ‘sweetspot’ where the sound is fully audible and coherent ( chairs are positioned at these spots). Walk in a different direction you will hear birds singing, people talking, whispering or a composed piano track even some creaking and metallic noises.
The work encourages you to use your auditory senses to fully appreciate Bot’s sonic world and of that of the world around you.

Soundthebox
Soundthebox is a repurposed contemporary phone booth with two speakers suspended from the ceiling connected to an mp3 player. A sound work is played through the binaural speakers while the listener is seated within the box.
The box is fully soundproofed to aid the listener and create a fully immersive sound environment. I created the work to explore 3D spatial sound sensation within a closed set environment. When you experience the sounds within the box you sense you are actually in the environment where it is happening. Soundproofing the box enhances the experience in keeping out distracting noises. I urge listeners to really listen in the moment to the sounds all around and hopefully fire your imagination about what you hear.
