Bernadette Comac is a digital composer and artist based in Northern Ireland. With a background in music from Queens University Belfast and a Masters in Computer music, she is interested in exploring the musical character of society and the use of new internet technologies in her performances and multimedia works. Her work often incorporates digital technologies such as the kinect and elements of performance art.
Notably, she has used a virtual performer in an installation work at the Crescent Arts Centre as part of the Sonorities Festival in 2012 and the Béal Festival in Dublin. In 2014, she performed live at the Sonic Arts Research Centre using gesture-controlled technology the leap motion controller.
Her projects incorporate sensor control technologies in an augmented reality (AR) platform. Her first AR project was exhibited on Culture Night 2014. Her latest project was an AI created Piano work 'AI Piano V1' 2023.
Starting out writing traditional classical works, I have since delved into the world of AI, creating the groundbreaking 'AI Piano v1' for piano (2023). This project was a true labour of love, and it showcases composer's deep understanding of both music and technology. The AI Piano v1 is a stunning example of how technology can be used to innovative music.
In addition to the AI Piano v1, Experiments in Sound has also created the Soundbox, a repurposed telephone box that features immersive sound. This project is a testament to the composer's creativity and ingenuity, and it has been praised by music lovers and critics alike. The Soundbox is a truly unique experience, and it is a must-see for anyone who is interested in the intersection of music and technology.
Experiments in Sound's journey from traditional classical works to AI has been a fascinating one. Along the way, the composer has experimented with performance and installations, always pushing the boundaries of what is possible in music.
